About US
Mission Statement:
At Northwest Striders, we train and educate young athletes from Baltimore, MD (Woodlawn, Pikesville, Randallstown, and surrounding areas) on the fundamentals of running through conditioning and preparing the athletes to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) & the USA Track and Field Clubs (USATF) National Championships.

We are dedicated to building a team founded on empowerment, teamwork, endurance, affirmation, andcommunity. We also encourage our athletes to make running and all its principles a part of theathletes’ everyday life.
Goal:
The Northwest Striders Track Club will develop our athletes’ confidence, motivation, and physical
endurance. We also will teach corrective running and breathing techniques to aid the athletes in
controlling their rapid heartbeat to minimize performance anxiety.

Welcome to the STRIDERS Indoor/Outdoor Season!
Northwest Striders Track Club Season begins in December and runs through June.
During this time, athletes experience goal-oriented training, mindful sportsmanship, and a winning mindset. These efforts are in preparation for AAU & USATF Meets in MD & the surrounding States.
We make STRIDES to ensure all athlete(s) can qualify for the National Championships!

Meet Our Coaches
Coach Derek was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. At the age of 5 years, he began running track and relay events for the Liberty Elementary Daycare. In the years that followed, from 1989 through 1994, Coach Derek ran for Northwest Striders, of Baltimore City, competing in AAU and Junior Olympics where he won numerous medals. In 1992, at the age of 12, he ran the 4 x 400m relay and broke the AAU National record in Rochester, Minnesota, running at a time of 4:02.05. Coach Derek athletic background also includes playing varsity football for Baltimore City High School, where he graduated in 1998 and went on to receive an Associate’s degree in Construction Management. Coach Derek is in his second year as the head coach of the nostalgic Northwest Striders Track Club and his goal is to train youth on all fundamentals of running in preparation for the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Junior Olympics and USATF (USA Track & Field) championships.
